Fly Birmingham to Istanbul

Birmingham International Airport has announced that another high calibre major global network carrier - Turkish Airlines - will commence services to Istanbul from 15th December 2008. The new service will offer Midlands travellers the first direct scheduled service to Istanbul from the region.

Turkey’s flag-carrier, and member of the Star Alliance global airline grouping, will operate five weekly flights to Istanbul and will provide onward flight opportunities within Turkey, the Middle East and the Far East, through its own established route network.

Turkish Airlines currently has a four star ranking according to SKYTRAX, the world airline star rating programme that ranks airline product and service standards, similar to that achieved by Air France, British Airways, Emirates, Lufthansa and Virgin Atlantic.

Osman Battal, Turkish Airlines’ Director for UK, said, “Not only can we offer air travellers in Birmingham and the wider region new direct flights to Istanbul, but we are also able to fly people to over 140 onward destinations including Bangkok, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Delhi, Bombay and Singapore. Although we will be launching in December with five weekly flights, we aspire to be operating daily services from Birmingham by summer 2009 and carrying 30,000 of passengers a year by this time.”

The airline will operate a 155-seat mixed configuration Boeing 737-800 aircraft, fitted with 20 seats in business class and 135 in economy.

Flights on Mondays and Thursdays will arrive in Birmingham at 1030 and depart to Istanbul at 1130. The remaining three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays will arrive in Birmingham at 1215 and depart at 1315.

The timings are such to allow the shortest possible connection times to the banks of worldwide departures from Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul hub.

Elite Travel Conference

Anatolian Sky is attending this year's Elite Travel Conference which will take place from October 16th to 20th in the Gran Melia Salinas hotel and organisers are hoping that more than 200 delegates will attend.

Elite chairman Wayne Darrock said: “Our conference theme is ‘Pure Elite’. We aim to keep all our presentations short and to the point with every subject and topic relevant to our members.”

Attending from Anatolian Sky will be Sarah Arnesen, Marketing Manager, and Stephanie Jones, UK Sales Executive.

"The Elite Travel Group is already an important customer of ours and we have a strong commercial relationship with all of their members. Our Wintersun 2008/9 brochure is now available and our full season 2009 brochure is available very soon and we are aiming to raise our profile further at this year's conference", said Sarah earlier today.

Visit Saklikent Gorge with Anatolian Sky Holidays

Saklikent Gorge is a 17km-long canyon, with walls so steep that the sun never reaches the floor. If you can brave wading through the icy cold water at the start it is a pleasant walk through the canyon. It is one of the 'must do' excursions to book on your Holiday in Turkey.

Enterprising locals have set up a series of wooden platforms suspended just a foot or two above the bubbling snow-melt of the Xanthos River. Decked out with Turkish rugs and comfy cushions and shaded by fig trees, they serve freshly-caught trout, turkish pancakes and beer cooled by the ice-cold waters.

Saklikent (Hidden City) Gorge is the second-largest gorge in Europe and the longest and deepest gorge in Turkey, close to Olu Deniz. It is a spectacular place, with sculpted walls soaring high above. Four km. of the gorge is walkable after April.
